My answers are basically "yes" to everything. The big unknown is simply the state of the world. Difficulty of travel means we will not make it to Bali until 2022 to check things out. Overall, I think your plan is very work-able.

Thank you Jeff. Yes there are many unknowns, but I appreciate your positive comments.

Tried to join some of the online investment sites listed on your health insurance discussion- I’m not an American- no US phone number. What do you suggest?

Where are you from? Companies like TD Ameritrade or Fidelity are international and are fairly easy to use.

I’m Canadian- my issue is whether they will accept a Canadian or Vietnamese address and phone number

The Next 2-3 Years

Over the next 2 or 3 years, are you considering any of these goals?

* retirement

Yes, to be more specific “early retirement” somewhere between 2 and 3 years (at the latest) from now;

* financial independence

Also yes, since it is conditional for the above. Any (paid) work after that is because it is enjoyable and/or exiting to do, not out of financial necessity;

* second home

No, we will not keep a feet on the ground somewhere else (see also the next answer);

* expat life

Yes, it is the plan to move to Indonesia (which is an expat life for me, not for my wife who is a Indonesia national) permanently. Most likely we will settle ourselves in Bali but this is not cast in stone. Some other areas are also subject of consideration.

Thank you Sybren for your response. Would you be interested in a community setting or strictly a private villa or apartment? By community I also mean having privacy but there would be shared spaces too, such as the pool and a dining space.

It is most likely we will settle ourselves in a regular house (LB > 100m2, 3 KT, LT > 200) in existing neighborhood (within the local community).
