"This black hole is eating the equivalent of 80 of our Suns every year, or an Earth every second.”
An Earth swallowed up entirely each and every second. Now that's what I call a healthy appetite.
And how does this fact make you feel? Insignificant? Well, you are not alone.
On the other hand isn't it a privilege to be a tiny member of a civilization that discovers just how mind bogglingly awesome the universe is?
Scientists probe the tiniest OMG particles and the most humongous cosmic objects, re-writing everything we know about... everything. Continuously.
It's no wonder that some people hold on to fixed belief systems. It's far easier!
So, what does this have to do with my normal topics on retiring in Bali, financial independence, etc?
It's all about perspective, dear reader.
The above chart shows the difference in the number of searches for becoming rich versus becoming financially independent. Becoming rich is the wish of so many, yet becoming financially independent is the real target. Why? If you become rich you may or may not stay rich. Becoming financially independent means (theoretically) you never have to answer to anyone ever again.
If you are interested in making a life that is truly your own, then thinking outside the "become rich" box will be necessary.
In discussing black holes I was using a scientific fact to make a point about how we perceive things. How encountering scientific discoveries may potentially change your perspective.
If and when you put in place a plan to become financially independent you will need to perceive things and behave in new ways. It's not rocket science but it does require more than a modicum of discipline.
For example, there is a relationship between frugality and wealth, and unlike the laws of science, each person creates their own equation for making the right choices and achieving the correct balance in the journey towards his or her own definition of wealth. It's more about getting your major priorities in place then focusing on dollars and cents.
A new perspective means really seeing things in a new way. An entire Earth being swallowed in a single second.
Can you imagine?
Live each day the way you want, free from financial stress.
Can you imagine?
I hope so.

Thanks again for your little article. It’s always a pleasure reading them.
I’ll be in Bali with my wife in August and will try to drop by at your retreat for a moment to say hello. Best regards,
