Sorry folks. I had my hopes way high after seeing a lovely riverside piece of land. I made a deal with the land owner and then she backed out. It’s a complicated story but it is best to just let it go.
As this point I am going to back away from acquiring land and just make myself available for questions and comments about retiring abroad (more specifically in Bali but not necessarily) at our new website.
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
Mark Twain, The Innocents Abroad
I believe this pandemic will lead to different attitudes about travel and will ultimately be beneficial for both locals and travelers / expats. But we are perhaps a year away from seeing the beginnings of this new wave of what might be called a more socially sensitive approach to intercultural exchange.
I am open to having online chats with anyone who is seriously considering a major life change such as re-locating to a foreign country. Since our new website: https://retireinbali.edition.so/ is better at capturing comments and questions and is organized with categories, let’s drill down to more specific issues there.
Later,
Neill
