Hi dear readers. As you know, I just launched an alternative dating webapp based on the idea of getting rich data from members in order to give them superior matches. We provide members with LOTS of content, in the form of simple, self-reflective statements such as, "I feel I am good at managing my emotions in difficult situations." Members then rate the statements from 1-10.
There are 17 categories and over 500 statements! But the members see only one statement at a time.
We depend on member statement ratings versus profile swiping.
My concern was that in this world of instant gratification, members might rate 5 statements and expect to see perfect matches, when rating 25-50 statements offers much richer connection options.
Early indications are that members are willing to rate over 40 statements on average, which validates the platform's strategy. And when members return, we route them to the Rate page after sign-in, where they can accomplish two things: learn more about themselves, and get better matches with potential partners.
Yesterday we had a user who went ahead and answered ALL of the statements in one sitting! I reached out to her and you can read her comments in the screenshot below.
Here's her public profile:

I was a bit shocked that a member would go through our entire dataset in one sitting, but it just proves the point that you can never really predict user needs. And secondly, never take for granted users' willingness to challenge themselves in new situations.
For those who are curious about the app, I created a demo so that you don’t have to sign up before you “get the idea”:
