Bali Festival & Future Developments for Seniors

This past weekend I attended the second Suara Festival at Nuanu. A group of us that are responsible for building senior housing next to Nuanu got together at the festival and we all enjoyed the lovely evening, dreaming of what is to come on this thrilling property.

Oasia is the name of the senior active living community housing concept that I pitched to the Nuanu team about 9 months ago. Since then we are evolving the concept and, after two other projects get underway, they will begin construction of approximately 200 units.

As previously mentioned the land, over 2.5 hectares, has already been purchased. But before we engage an architect we are working with a hotel and resort consultant who is helping to shape the agenda for how we can attract seniors.

There is a lot to be concerned about, as seniors might be reluctant to make major transitions such as moving to a foreign land.

To address these fears we are discussing the implementation of a "gray" gap year program. Just as high school seniors who have not been able to focus on choosing the right college or career path can take a gap year, actual seniors (55 years+) who have finished their working life have to face an unknown future path of where and how they will move forward as retirees.

In this regard we are planning to offer a concierge-type service, welcoming seniors who want to visit Bali for one month, six months, or even a year. We will assist with the visa and transition process (although visiting for less than 60 days is a simple matter of obtaining a visa-on-arrival), as well as offer housing and activity options.

If you are thinking, oh this is all well and good but I can never move to Bali. Even a 6 month gray gap year seems crazy.

Then consider these wise words:

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

— Muhammad Ali

And now a request. Please fill out this form even if you have the very slightest interest in a Bali Gap Year.

Active Senior Living is getting re-defined all around the globe. I expect to see a very large number of experiments and certainly Oasia will be one of them. I am so thrilled to be a part of a vision for a new type of village / city / community at Nuanu, and even more so with Active Senior Living at Oasia.

Later,

Neill

Hi Kramer --

Please keep us in the loop - we are hoping to go to Aus and NZ in the near future. I think Roy C. is over in Malaysia (I think) for Scott C' wedding. Love to talk more. Keep up the good work!

Hi Neill, Sorry we missed the Suara Festival at Nuanu. We were exploring the beaches in Tabanan.

Good to see Nuanu and Oasia making progress. Please keep us in the loop.

Cheers, Scott
